State of (Dis)Union

If you’re like me, you’re still shaking your head over Bush’s State of the Union address last week. The good folks over at The Center for American Progress did a point-by-point analysis of the President’s speech. In science, we would call this peer-review and the President’s statements would never be allowed to be published, but in politics they just call it campaigning. The “politics as usual” license is an unusual one in that it let’s the most powerful man-in-the-world distort facts (read:lie) at will on a global platform.

In other news, Halliburton has finally admitted to giving employees $6 million in kickbacks (yes, million). I blogged about this whole Halliburton mess a few months back and received some heat for going up against big oil. For those interested, check out this article describing the aforementioned debauchery.

“…Halliburton recently admitted that two employees received $6 million kickbacks in return for awarding a Kuwaiti-based company with lucrative work supplying U.S. troops in Iraq.”
