I’m sitting here watching Kerry’s concession speech and I’m still surprised at the election results. While everyone expected the electoral vote race to be close, I’m shocked by the disparity in the popular vote. Reports from all the major media outlets indicate that it was “moral values” that was the underlying factor in voters chosing Bush for re-election. Nearly 25% of voters reported that above all other issues they were voting for Bush because they felt he would protect “American morals”.
Throughout this election, I’ve held that we are voting for more than just a President. Instead, this is really a cultural vote. In the end it came down to those Americans who want more science and progress and those Americans who want more Jesus and more guns. This has never been clearer to me now.
I don’t know about you, but as I look at the electoral map I am feeling more and more marginalized in our country.
How do you feel?
