Two short months after hearing three days of testimony on the same-sex marriage issue, the Canadian Supreme Court ruled that Ottawa does NOT have the right to decide which citizens can and cannot be married. The ruling allows couples married in certain parts of Canada to rest assured that their marriage is legal throughout the entire country. The Canadian court seems to have no problem understanding that same-sex marriage has nothing to do with god or religion but everything to do with fairness and equality. Under legalized same-sex marraiges, couples in Canada are entitled to the same benefits and participation in their partner’s critical health decisions, parental rights and funeral decisions.
Now, doesn’t that sound a whole lot better than the homophobia that plagues us here in the states? Opening your mind is neverr easy, but once you do the trip is amazing.
