first world problems

recently i have been heard expressing the following 1st world problems:

  • currently, evenings in socal are too warm for fans set to ‘medium’ but not hot enough to set fans  on ‘high’. consequently, nights are spent in fan adjustment hell.
  • when complimented by the pretty girl about a recent haircut i replied: ‘thanks, i think my hair’s getting thicker and it makes getting a good haircut increasingly more difficult.‘ complaining about thickening hair a week before your 30th birthday is definitely a first world prob.
  • being pissed off because the amount of music/tv/movies in your iTunes collection is really slowing down mycomputer.
  • complaining that the volume on my 42″ LCD HDTV fluctuates from one HD channel to the next.

for any one of these actions i should have all of my things taken from me and beaten.

this weekend i learned that if you throw two tennis balls at the same time, buster will fetch the first one in his mouth and then spend a good 30secs trying to figure out how to carry the second ball back with him without dropping the first.

his has led to hours of viewing pleasure.

    home ownership

the only thing more mind scrambling than car shopping is house shopping.

honestly. there’s a reason why there are so many damn apartments for rent on every street corner.

fuckers have it down to the dollar how much they can charge you to ‘rent’ without making it financially feasible for you to ‘buy’. viva la capitalism.

    Discover: Time may not exist

    Time may not exist.

It may be that the best way to think about quantum reality is to give up the notion of time — that the fundamental description of the universe must be timeless. […] Time may be an approximate concept that emerges at large scales — a bit like the concept of ‘surface of the water,’ which makes sense macroscopically but which loses a precise sense at the level of the atoms.

    redux: cool kids watch CSPAN

I have to admit that I’ve spent more than my fair share of time watching the Democratic National Convention on CSPAN. (Actually admitting that I watch anything on C-SPAN automatically qualifies me as a political junky and threatens my status as a cool/hip/young guy.) While I missed tonight’s keynote speech by Tereza, I did catch Barak Obama’s speech.

While I had heard great things about the Senatorial candidate from Illinois, this was the first time that I had the pleasure of hearing him speak. Presenting his own life as an example of American ideals, Obama delivered a uniquely genuine and powerful speech. Obama urged Americans to not allow the “spin masters and negative ad peddlers” to divide our country. After listening to his speech, I can see why this guy has become the “great hope” of the DNC. Bookmark this post and refer back to it in 2012. Obama represents the future of American politics. Conservatives/Republicans take notice.

With ratings for the first night of the convention the lowest in history, this whole convention exercise may prove futile in persuading the all important swing-vote. Nonetheless, those who caught Obama’s speech witnessed the brightest moment of the entire campaign.

Spent anytime watching C-SPAN this week? All the cool kids are…

UPDATE: While C-SPAN’s video link of Barak Obama’s speech isn’t cooperating, you can read the full-text transcript of his speech courtesy of his campaign website.

    christoff’s sushi birthday dinner

so last night was christoff’s birthday and we celebrated at Tokyo Sushi. no one was really in the mood for pictures because they are all grumps. i had to resort to taking pictures of my food until christoff took this great shot of me not being candid for the camera as kim reacted to the other end of the table.

each one guides us home and we’re better because of them.

in the darkness, when we’re honest, we know they keep us breathing. they keep us awake. they keep us alive.

    5.350% ARM

so the past few weeks i’ve been house shopping and it’s scrambled my brain. the bright side is that i can now have an intelligent conversation about fixed/adjustable/FHA and other various types of mortgages. i’m a grown-up.

after work i went and picked up some dinner from oscar’s and while i was enjoying my spanish cuisine the phone rang. i returned to find that buster had snuck outside with my side order of spanish rice and by the time i realized what had happened he was laying on the empty container with a belly full of rice and the aluminum containter hanging from his mouth.
currently, he’s got this oh-fuck-look on his face and he’s moving at 1/4 speed.

    electioneering

the ‘cold war kids‘ did a cover of ‘electioneering‘ for the “ok computer” 10th anniversary tribute on stereogum.

the resulting effort is pretty bad ass. in a world where covering radiohead is about as easy as a camel passing through the eye of a needle (that’s a jesus reference for my god-fearing-readers) the cold war kids did a fuck good job.

    enjoy it at stereogum.com
