the genius of michael stipe is especially appreciated when he participates in music outside of what has been crafted as his own. tonight’s example is his collaboration with dashboard confessional on their emo/hipster tune “hands down”. (tune and video available here)

once you’ve heard the stipe-infused-duet, the original track finds itself screaming demands for stipe’s baritone influence.

so by now, i can only pray to invisible-make-believe-jesus that you’ve had a chance to listen to the new record from ben harper & the relentless 7 entitled, “white lies for dark times“. (if not, it’s ok and we can still be friends if you promise to turn off american idol and listen to this.)

my little snowflakes, i know what it’s like to miss out on things that are rad.

stumbling around youtube will consume your life if you’re not careful…tonight i’m letting it.

here’s a great video featuring Billy Preston aka The Fifth Beatle (may he rest in peace) sitting in on the studio recording of “get back“.

billy preston sat in and contributed keyboard tracks for the White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be; he was one of george harrison’s best friends and contributed so much of what we love about these records. if none of this beatles talk rings a bell, billy wrote/composed “you are so beautiful (to me)” which joe cocker made famous.

billy preston IS “the 5th beatle” and frankly, Ringo needs to watch his back b/c 4th place is up for grabs.

Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King Cover Art

Early this evening, the Dave Matthews Band released the album artwork for their upcoming album, “Big Whiskey And The GrooGrux King”.

The art was drawn by Dave himself and pays homage to the late LeRoi Moore in what could be described as a New Orleans’ style-funeral celebration.

so today was crazy stressful.

everyone on campus was pissed to have to be back to work after the holidays; i tried my best to swim out past the breakers.

tonight i’m relaxing and downloading hundreds of photos from my vacation and of course interacting with you, my little snowflakes.

tonight’s soundtrack is dj minty fresh beat’s jaydiohead mashup of Radiohead & Jay-Z. if you’ve been around 1LS since the early days, then you’ll remember how much i loved “the grey album”.

back in ’92 a guy with a guitar walked into a recording studio in Charlottesville, VA and recorded a demo track that glorified the love between a couple begrudgingly cheating on their significant other.

the result of a september day spent in the studio was a track entitled, “say goodbye” and—for this guy steering the ship—it remains one of the more personal and poignant songs that dave matthews ever laid to tape.

tomorrow night, ben harper & the innocent criminals are going to be performing “fight outta you” on last call w/ carson daly. this is a good reason to own a tivo and to set it accordingly. in fact, i’m blogging this so that i wont forget to do the same.

damn the video for deathcab‘s single “i will possess your heart” is awesome. let’s see…hot hipster chick walking around in slow motion CHECK…band playing in the freezing cold with wet instruments CHECK…3 minute long bass-line intro CHECK.

i liked it so much i bought the full-on-high-quality-version from iTunes for $2 and that rarely happens.
