i’m my father’s son.consequently, elvis presley is near and dear to my heart. nonetheless, the greatest elvis track i’ve ever heard was sung by Bono. tonight’s song is from the ‘honeymoon in vegas‘ soundtrack.falling in love is rad.

“…well, i had just gotten the book, sir…one of the boys gave it to me on the train, and the title of the book was called ‘poems that touch the heart“…i read one in particular called ‘should you go first‘ it was beautiful.”Elvis Presely, 1968

enjoy “home” from the latest foo fighter’s album. posting it just because.

“Wish I were with you, I couldn’t stay.
Every direction leads me away.
Pray for tomorrow, but for today all I want is to be home.”

so i was browsing through my itunes library and found this random ‘jewel’ album amongst the cool music.

why the hell do i have this album?” i asked myself.

scrolling through the tracklist, i found the song “down so long” and i remember exactly why i own this bland-radio-friendly album.

it was the summer of 2001 and my girl and i were in vegas for a vacation away from everything but each other.

we’ve never needed anything less than one another to have a good time. we had no need for expensive shows, risky craps tables or expensive alcohol; we had each other and we could keep each other high the entire time.

as was often the case, we found ourselves perusing the casinos (people watching was one of our favorite hobbies). a few hours spent in the mega-casinos convinced us that the vegas gods had synchronized their musak because over the course of 3 days we heard “down so long” at least two-dozen times.

by the end of our trip we had even worked out a dance to the overly-familiar tune. if i close my eyes and remember, i can hear the song playing in the elevator and feel a smile welling up from nowhere.

so tonight i stumbled over this track and consequently i’m enjoying the feeling of being in vegas with my best friend.

“…i’ve been down so long, that the end must be drawing near.”

let it ride

i have no reason for posting this track tonight other than i dig it and this is my blog and i’ll do as i please.’let it ride’ by ryan adams.

your passenger seat or how an emo kid gets their wings

it seems that most of my life is spent beyond the grasp of my control. too often i’m safely buckled into the passenger seat while life drives me to the place i hope to end up…

so tonight i’m listening to “passenger seat” by dcfc…hope it finds you too…even if it doesnt you should listen to it through and through…and then listen to it again.

they say that everytime you listen to a death cab for cutie song an emo kid gets their wings.

tables turned again
And you my friend
You and I face each other
Oh time and time out
I know it’s sometimes hard
But knowing just doll
That we will get along
’Til we’re old and gray
And huddled up
We’re doubled up, we’ll sit
And laugh of times were hard
Laugh of times when we thought
All it would end, it all it was over
Then again
And know that I am your rich rain
And to leave you out, I’ll die
Oh my friend
It’ll be you until the end with me always
Always…

shoot up with god

so one of my favorite defunct bands is vendetta red. their last/final album’s bonus track was called ‘shoot up with god’ and it’s badass.

the kids think it’s about doing drugs with god/jesus, but it reality it’s about drug addiction and the low-life-scum who become the addict’s god. deep stuff.

take a listen…

lyrics:
I’m poking a jigsaw vein with a rusty syringe.
Like a pinch on the arm, baby, keep it surreal.
Stand beneath the Eiffel Tower, a freedom kiss on the mouth.

Stare forever in the face until the fever runs out.
You know you love the taste of tetanus.
So pucker up and praise the slum lord.
Shoot up with god.

eddie vedder: into the wild

how did i miss all the hoopla about eddie vedder’s solo soundtrack for the film “into the wild“?

maybe i was busy taking pictures of buster or something.

nonetheless here’s a great track from the record called ‘society’.

so i’ve been going through my photo library and migrating it over to a program that can handle all the RAW images i’ve been capturing on the dSLR. (this includes roughly 15000 pictures of buster….oh and lots of signs for some reason.)

as a general rule, i rarely delete photos b/c storage is cheap and you never know when in the future you’re going to want to flashback to the past. with that being said, i’ve got a fair amount of pictures that i cant stand to have around anymore.
(who would have known a few birthday parties worth of pictures could induce such a visceral response.)

with that in mind, i’ve purged my photo library of one too many reminders of what it’s like to take a knife in the back; while i wont have photos to remind me of how sad people can be, i’ve got the scars and they’ll do just fine.

ben harper: lifeline

the new ben harper & the innocent criminals album is on sale today and i’m super jazzed. about a week ago they started streaming the entire album on the band’s website and i’ve been hooked ever since.

after their 9 month tour ended last year, the guys piled into a recording studio in paris and recorded “lifeline” direct to analog tape. no protools, no computers, just old school soul. the result is incredible.

when brandon and i saw the band in claremont we got to hear a couple of the tracks played live for the first time anywhere and to say they rock would be a huge understatement. i’m on my way out to pickup the combo CD/DVD now and you would be well-advised to do the same.

dave on war

so i’m trying out my new install of the audioplayer plugin for wordpress.

this is ‘oh’ by dave and tim from the new live album “live at radio city music hall”.

even if dave’s not your bag, his war commentary in the beginning would be good advice for anyone.

electioneering

the ‘cold war kids‘ did a cover of ‘electioneering‘ for the “ok computer” 10th anniversary tribute on stereogum.

the resulting effort is pretty bad ass. in a world where covering radiohead is about as easy as a camel passing through the eye of a needle (that’s a jesus reference for my god-fearing-readers) the cold war kids did a fuck good job.

enjoy it at stereogum.com

the one where i end up talking about myself

so i’m really digging ryan adams’ new album, ‘easy tiger‘.

seems the record company convinced a brother to make a commercially viable product and he responded with songs that will equally please the hard-core-fan and casual-listener alike.

i’m digging the song “two” but i’m not sure if it’s because i like the song or because it sounds like a down-tempo version of “new york, new york” from “gold“.

you, of course, will remember that our band rocks a great version of “ny, ny“.

see how i started this blog post talking about ryan adams and somehow managed to find something to say about “the addicted”? you can’t learn it, you’re just born with it.
