Today Apple Inc issued this statement opposing Proposition 8 in California:
Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.
good on you, Apple.
so it’s become a tradition for me to make predictions on the eve of any Apple Expo Event. being that tomorrow is the WWDC, I shall once again either completely UNDERpredict or OVERpredict what Steve Jobs will have to say to the Apple-masses tomorrow morning.
here are my official predictions:
- iPhone 2.0: the long awaited 2.0 firmware will be announced as “final” and bring all sorts of 3rd party application goodness as well as full-on Exchange support, etc. also expect a few more “apple developed applications” in this release. it will be available for download…IMMEDIATELY.
- MobileMe: say goodbye to the overpriced .mac service and say hello to the all new premium offering from apple bringing over-the-air syncing of personal email, contacts, etc. MobileMe will be available for purchase…IMMEDIATELY.
- 3G iPhone: no more shall iPhone users be frustrated with lousy Edge network speeds when away from WiFi. Assuming that the major carriers (AT&T as well as international carries) will need time to field test the new hardware, expect to be able to pickup the new 3G iPhone in “later this month.”
- GPS: throw in GPS and crazy Google Maps integration when the 3G iPhone ships…oh and while i’m at it…video recording, MMS (dear god let them include MMS) and a ‘lifeblogging app’ in the new version for good measure.
- OS 10.6: given that this is a developer’s conference expect to hear about Apple’s next iteration of OSX and a complete LACK of PowerPC support. Sorry legacy users.
- Total OS Integration: expect his Steve-hood to emphasize tighter integration between the mobile and desktop versions of OSX and the new online offerings in MobileMe.
i’ll update this post after the keynote address and we can all collectively laugh at my complete and total lack of understanding of what the hell apple chooses to do with their multi-billion-dollar-company.
in the few months that i’ve had my dSLR, i’ve been using a combination of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 to organize and touch-up (read: attempt to make something decent out of) my photos. Thanks to the handy NAPP membership that Josh gave me, I’ve slowly been moving away from the Lightroom-one-stop-paradigm.
Currently, I only use Lightroom to store photo metadata, etc and do all of my editing in Photoshop.
with that in mind, i’m looking forward to trying out the new version of Apple’s Pro photo app—Aperture. there’s a free 30-day trial upon on the Aperture site, and based on early accounts, the rewrites made to version 2 have made the once sluggish application slick and speedy.
merlin mann twittered the following about Aperture 2’s release:
Oh, so NOW I get all the fuss; Aperture is a prosumer porn organizer. Sheesh. All this “Pro Photographer” crap had thrown me off the scent.
also, this post can be filed under “n” for NERD.
with all the news coming out of macworld, i was most excited about the new iPhone firmware release.
“umm…excuse me, what? i can customize the icons on my home screen? in any order my little heart desires? YES PLEASE!”
by 3pm i was fed up with work and school and decided to customize the hell out of my new iPhone WebClip icons and came up with the following (sorry for the shitty photo):

some dude started a flickr pool for iPhone/iTouch Webclip icons and I’m happy to be a part of it…check it out here.
hehe…phones are cool…hehe
